How To Get Traffic For Your Website

How To Get Traffic For Your Website

So you spent so much time and you're pretty frustrated that no one's finding your website. SEO takes a ton of time, right. It's not something you can do today and you're going to start getting traffic tomorrow. But if you have all this great content but bad SEO, no one's going to find it. In this article I'm going to be talking about how to get traffic for your website.

So You've Got This Website And Have Made It All Super Pretty.

It's Got Great Content And Superb Images, But The Question Is, How To Get Traffic For Your Website?

“Stop working on the things that aren't working and start building more content that people are actually searching for.”

So, as I've said previously, you have spent so much time working on this and you're pretty annoyed that no one's finding your website.

"Well then, the first thing you need to do is you need to be constantly putting content on your website. Very simply, if you don't have articles, if you don't have a reason for people to be continually coming to your website, you need to give them a reason. So start publishing content regularly."

Start a blog on your website if you haven't already, it's the easiest thing that you can do. You can post at whatever schedule you want, whether its once a week, twice a week, three times a week, four, five, six times a week! Pick what works for you and just start putting content out there. Then people will start finding it, and then subscribing and coming back and back again.

So you've got this website and have made it all super pretty, its got good content and images, but the question is, how to get traffic for your website?

Click to Tweet

However, you really need to get yourself organized in order to post your content on a regular basis ... but how do we really keep things organized and consistent? The easiest thing you can do is create a content calendar. Its a place where you can put all of your post and all of your ideas in one place and then you can see, for example, I need to write these 10 articles, and they're going to post on these days.' - Perfect.

"So we have the content created. Remember ... Content Is King."

Now, should it just live there on your website or should you be thinking "what else should I do with this content in order to build traffic?" So, the best thing that you can do now is, once you already have lots of content, is go publish it everywhere. - Everywhere!

For example, if you have a blog post and you took great photographs and included them in your post, you should show the world in many other places too - on YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram.

You get the idea! Some social marketing.

There are lots of people out there that don't just follow you on your blog. (Yeah, Silly I Know!) So you need to get your content out there.

"There's people on Pinterest who don't even know you exist!"

So you need to make sure you create a nice little Pinterest banner, and it links back to your website, because people will be searching and they will find you, and they will hopefully become one of your new followers and readers.

So that's super important ...

You create a banner for Pinterest, and then you can repurpose that content for Instagram, don't just copy paste it everywhere, you have to make it for that platform. Like Twitter, keep it super simple, super short. With Instagram, include just a snippet of written content from your article to go with your image. Imagery is everything, especially the five original photos.

"Make sure your content is for that audience, 'cause they're there on that certain platform for a reason."

Like, if I'm on Instagram, I want to see imageries and things like that. I don't want to see text.

For YouTube you basically have a script already written with that piece of content, so just get in front of the camera and share your article, and publish to the YouTube world.

There, in a nutshell, thats it.

Just remember to link back to your website. So basically, just just keep repurposing your content.

"Just be everywhere, and share. Yep. Share it all."

So what we're doing is repurposing content, we're putting it on social platforms, we're putting it on our website, putting it where our followers are, but what we haven't brought up is email marketing.

Now a lot of people say 'email marketing is dead, don't use it, it's in the past, everything's social.'

So is there any value behind email marketing?

"First and foremost, people who are saying email marketing is dead, NO, NO, NO! Email marketing is still alive and well."

The great thing about email marketing is that you own that list. And so when you send an email, they will see your email. So that's a great way to get your content in front of the eyeballs of people who indicated that they like your content by the fact that they have literally signed up to follow updates from you.

So in email marketing, there's lots of different things that you can do.

You can do a newsletter, you can set things up so that anytime you post new content on your blog, you automatically send an email to those on your list.

"Whatever you want, just go and get in front of your audience through email."

Want some inspiration?

What are some of your favorite newsletters?

Go check your inbox right now, and just look. Are you following anyone via email?

Tell me ...

Be honest ...

"Do you always read those emails, every one?"

Right. Thought so!

You may be like me and don't read every single one BUT, what you do do is you still see that brand constantly, keeping that awareness going.

When they see that email from you pop into their inbox, sometimes they're gonna click and they're gonna be taken back to your website, and that's going to increase traffic to your website.

And it's important to remember not to 'sell, sell, sell.' You want to 'tell, tell, tell.' And when you're creating your email marketing newsletter, you want it to add value.

Whether its your blog post, email or content. Don't always push an offer to buy this or buy that because all you're going to get is more people who just unsubscribed immediately from your list!

So, what are some other options that we can do to help build traffic to our site?

So we've already done a load BUT we can do more.

So far, we've produced our own content, we've shared our content on all of our social channels, and all these other different places, we've also sent it to our email list.

Now its time to go to other people's website out into the big Wild West!

So, what we are talking about here is Guest Posts.

Basically, we know how hard creating content is, its time consuming, you have to edit it, you have to draft it, you have to come up with all these ideas and you've become an expert on it. And maybe you've already written about the things that you're an expert about so many times before.

"Your audience knows this, but maybe someone else's audience would benefit from learning from you?"

So guest blogging is going to someone else, maybe in your niche or a different niche and saying,

"Hey, I would like to write an article for your audience. Here's what I was thinking."

And what follows is that that you create very useful content and then, the most important part, is that somewhere in your bio or in that article, you have a link back to your own website meaning that these new readers can find you and then go to your website, visit and follow you from there.

"Not only that, but it also builds backlinks? Excellent, because that helps your SEO and increases the traffic to your website which is what this article is all about."

So if you aren't even appearing on the first page of the search listings, your basically dead!

Sounds harsh doesn't it ... but it's true!

No one goes past the first search page of Google, or any of the search engines. Do they? Do you?

So you need to work on your SEO, your Search Engine Optimization.

So that way, people, when they're searching for your keywords, or your products or services, you show up (above your competition) and they visit your site. But, it's important to note, even if you have all this great content, but have bad SEO, no one's gonna find your content! So you really need to work on your SEO in order to increase your traffic.

Right, let's take a closer look at those all important backlinks. And what really helped me understand backlinks, and something that I get asked questions about a lot is, you can think of backlinks almost as like followers, like on your post on Instagram, Facebook or wherever else.

"The more likes you get, the more people are gonna see it. So those backlinks are just "likes" for your website."

So SEO takes a ton of time. It's not something you can do today, and you're gonna start getting traffic tomorrow. But what are some of the things that, if we need that instant gratification, like 'I'm a millennial, I need to see it now.' What are some of the things I can do to get that instant traffic?

Like you said, SEO is building a relationship with Google.

So it does take time. It's like we're dating Google. You have to take them on all these dates, month after month, week after week, and so it really does take 6 or 12 months to really have very very strong SEO results ... if you're consistently putting in the effort that is!

But if you need traffic now, there are things that you can do right now to get the traffic that you need.

Its called 'Ads.'

So ads on search engines are an easy way to have your website pop up on the top of the search results.

So you've got this website and have made it all super pretty, its got good content and images, but the question is, how to get traffic for your website?

Click to Tweet

But the problem with it is that it's "pay to play".

So, let's say I have a $500 ad budget, every time that someone clicks that ad, a small "fee" gets subtracted from my budget. And eventually, whatever the rate is, when by budget's gone, my website, 'Poof,' it no longer appears on the search result.

But ads do work.

"We love Google, that's why we use it. Every single day. Multiple times per day."

So, people love Google and they do trust the ads.

So if you need people to buy your products right now, you might want to look into a PPC campaign, to get that traffic.

However, Pay-Per-Click, and Google's not the only place you can do it, I'm sure you've looked on Facebook, or on Instagram, or Twitter, and you've seen ads there too?

The bottom line is you need to be where your audience is.

Google's probably the most relevant because people are searching for those exact terms, so you're going to get that instant click but those social media platforms are pretty good too.

"Speaking of social ads, social ads can be very targeted, because they know everything about your demographics, what you like, what you don't like. It's a bit scary!"

So we're doing all these things to build traffic to our website, but how do we know what's working?

So if you do not have Google Analytics installed on your website, you need to stop and go install it right now. Because it has so much information, about who is visiting your website, when they're visiting your website, how long for, what pages they're visiting, when they're leaving.

It offers so much information, and it will help you understand which of your articles, that you spent so much time creating, are getting the most traffic and where this traffic is coming from as well as the search terms people are using to find those articles.

And so you'll be able to see very quickly what are your top performers, and what are your duds. So you can stop working on the things that aren't working and start building more content that people are actually searching for.

"Just Get Your Quality Content On Your Blog Consistently And Regularily And Share It Where Your Audience Hangs Out."

I hope this article has proved helpful for you, and that you have a few actionable tips that you can start today in order to find out how to get traffic for YOUR website.

I'm curious.

What is one thing you're going to start doing? Are you gonna build content, work on an email list. Do let me know.

I know what I'm doing ... I'm off to start creating more content.

I live in the UK in a small village called Minster in the South East of the country, not too far from Dover and Canterbury and only around 80 miles from London. I have been making money online now for a number of years and have built this site specifically to help others to also achieve success online!

Wow, I feel like I just has a crash course in online business development and management. What a great article. You packed a lot of excellent information and insight into this article, not only is it informational but also inspirational. You asked this question near the end – What is one thing you’re going to start doing? My answer is content creation. I have loads of other work to do as well but I see content creation as being the most important use of my time at this point. Thanks agin for a great post! Cheers.

    • Many thanks Myles,

      Glad you liked the post.

I get so many people asking me why they don’t seem to get much organic traffic to their site. Very often it comes as a big suprise to them when I tell them they need to post more content than one 500 word article a month!

      Content IS King.

  • Mike says:

Start building more content that people are actually searching for. This is the key takeaway here for me!

It’s such a good point and one that is not that obvious when you first start online marketing… even though it should be!

It’s also so true about email marketing. It certainly is not dead and I don’t think it will be for a very long time yet.

    • Cheers Mike,

You are quite right … it isn’t as simple as posting regular content EVEN if it is quality content. You need to post content that people want to read … interesting,on topic, on trend content.

Check out related forums and on social media. What are people talking about in your niche. What’s being shared.

  • Love Yourself says:

Great article.  I agree with everything that you say in your post.  Having started building a website myself,  it is very important to keep writing content – and as you say – to that specific audience.  I was still trying to get my head around SEOs and how to get my posts on page one of Google.  But your article has given me great tips.  I now know what needs to be done.

    Thanks again

    • And even though it may seem like things aren’t working – KEEP POSTING QUALITY CONTENT and SHARE IT!

      Many thanks Love Yourself

I think you’re right, that “content is king” and that until you have content to optimize, SEO is pretty difficult. My experience was that I thought I knew what people wanted to read so I started writing content based on that, but quickly realized that there was a whole world of people out there with some very different ideas and concerns to me. For the first couple of months I was baffled by the search queries people were using that led them to my site.

Once I started following up on comments and emails and genuinely trying to understand what people wanted and needed, I adjusted my content strategy and gradually the SEO side of it fell into place. Email marketing is SO important too! Especially for converting clicks into sales. Great article with lots of practical tips.

    • Thanks drinkteahub, you have hit the nail on the head! Just like my reply to a previous comment, you must produce content that people WANT to read.

      Thanks again
