Back Linking is an important Google ranking factor. So, by increasing the number of high-quality backlinks to your site, you’re also increasing your chances of ranking higher on Google.

Once your business/product/services or even your personal brand start being noticed, you’ll often find people mentioning your business - but without actually linking to your site.

This is a great opportunity for you to get more backlinks for your site.

Your back linking actions steps: 

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Do an exact search of your brand’s name (and related terms like your own name or names of products).  For example, if your brand’s name is: Social Shark, you would google " Social Shark" . Make sure to enclose the entire phrase in quotation marks to tell Google to search for the precise keywords in the prescribed order.  
  3. Make a list of all the articles that mention your business/brand/products. 
  4. Reach out to the authors who created those articles via email and ask them to include a link along with the mention. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated. Introduce yourself, thank them for the mention and tell them how much you enjoyed reading the blog post. Then kindly ask them to link to your site (and provide them with the link).
  5. The most valuable links come from back linking from high-authority websites. Keep that in mind when choosing who to reach out to. 


PRO Tip: 

Implement alerts on Google Alerts for on-going mentions of your brand (and related terms). This way, you can reach out to new mentions as they happen.
